Germany is one of my favourite places for vegan food. That may come as a surprise seeing as it’s generally known for bratwurst and schnitzel; however, in all the big cities – including Munich – I’ve always found it to be one of the easiest countries in which to find delicious and often innovative vegan food.
I’ve had amazing veggie foodie experiences in Berlin and Hamburg in the past, and Munich certainly didn’t let me down on my recent visit.
From smoothie bowls to burgers to cakes and pastries, I had so many delicious vegan meals in Munich. Here’s a rundown of my faves:
Göetterspeise
This artisan chocolate shop and cafe is the perfect place for coffee and a catch-up with a friend – which is exactly what I went here for!
Translating to God’s Diner, Göetterspeise serves not only a huge range of handcrafted chocolates but has a small food menu. They do great coffee with several milk alternatives available.
There are a few outdoor window seats, which are the perfect place to catch the sunshine and people watch. For chillier days, the interior is cosy and homely.
We didn’t eat here on this visit but the coffee was delicious and prices were reasonable so I’d happily return.
Tushita Teehaus
Though I’m not much of a tea drinker, we couldn’t go past this tea house. Along with their 150+ different teas, their food menu is entirely vegan!
They offer a lunch dish of the day, which on our visit was a quinoa bowl served with roasted corn, mashed parsnip and smoked tofu. The bowls were fresh and delicious and we enjoyed them at one of the little outdoor tables.
If you are a fan of tea, this place is perfect. The cosy, dark wood interiors are decorated with shelves and shelves of teas and tea paraphernalia. Along with the dish of the day, there is a selection of vegan cakes and slices to enjoy with your hot drink.
Prices are reasonable and service is very friendly. A lovely little vegan-friendly place to enjoy in Munich!
Fei Scho
Friendly Asian-fusion restaurant Fei Scho was a short walk from my friend’s flat, so we ended up going twice for dinner.
They have a pretty small menu but most dishes are available with either a meat or tofu option so there’s plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans.
On our first visit, I went for the tofu curry with chickpeas, sweet potato and mixed veg, which was delicious. I also had a (giant) summer roll with tofu. So good!
On our second visit I had the Caramelised Tofu, which was served with rice and mixed salad. The tofu was sweet and sticky without being too rich. Perfect!
The prices were really reasonable and service was friendly and fast. A great little neighbourhood find!
Emmi’s Kitchen
Emmi’s Kitchen is an entirely vegan cafe. Hidden away off the street, the cafe has a lovely courtyard where you can enjoy your meal in the sunshine.
The lunch menu offers a great range of bowls and salads but we couldn’t go past the amazing-sounding burgers. The burgers are all served with a house quinoa and chia patty, patatas bravas (a nice change from chips or fries) and homemade vegan aioli.
Naturally, with my avocado obsession, I went for the Crazy Avocado Burger. Served on a rustic bun, it came with homemade guacamole, sprouts, walnuts, and a herb dip.
My friend had the Bavarian Chutney Burger, which was served with home-made chutney with sweet mustard and pickles, between a vegan brioche bun.
I really enjoyed my burger but not gonna lie, I had a slight case of food envy this time around!
At the weekend, Emmi’s sell freshly-baked cinnamon rolls. It was pretty much a given that we had to go back to try one, so as we headed out of Munich on a day trip, we stopped by to grab coffee and vegan pastries to go.
The cinnamon rolls were still warm when we picked them up… Drool!
Wagner’s Juicery
Owned by surfers who travelled the coasts of California, Hawaii and South Africa before setting up shop, Wagner’s Juicery has a young and modern vibe.
The entirely vegetarian/mostly vegan menu of this central Munich cafe focuses on fresh, natural ingredients. Cakes are made daily and smoothies, juices, salads and bowls are made to order.
It was pretty hard to pick from their extensive smoothie bowl menu as everything sounded amazing! In the end, I went for a mixed berry and acai bowl topped with granola, puffed quinoa, seeds and fresh fruit.
My friend had a chocolate-raspberry bowl with cacao nibs. It was a teensy but rich for me but still really tasty. Her two year-old was a big fan!
Their coffee is excellent and along with dairy milk, you can choose from rice, almond, oat or soy. I went for an oat milk latte, which was impressively frothed!
They also have a window full of cakes and breads, most of which are vegan. I bought slices of their pumpkin and banana bread to have later, both of which were delicious!
Great post 😁
Thank you! 🙂
No problem 😁 check out my blog when you get the chance 🙂
Useful, thanks!
Thank you! So glad you found it useful. 🙂
Wow everything looks so good. If I am ever there I will definitely try those out.
It was all delicious! 🙂
Everything sounds so delicious! I would love to visit Munich someday. It’s good to know that there are tons of delicious food options waiting for me too! Thank you so much for sharing ♡
It was all so good! Hope you make it to Munich some day and enjoy your foodie adventures! 🙂
These are beautiful food spots! We have thought about going vegan a few times recently.
They were all really lovely!
I flirted with veganism for years before trying Veganuary at the start of this year. Never looked back! Worth a try if you’re interested, even if you do it gradually. 🙂
oh everything looks so yummy!!
It was all super-tasty! 🙂
I like the variety of foods features here, from Asian to burgers and beyond! I haven’t been to Munich yet, but would love to go, during the Oktoberfest event, ideally.
Munich was certainly amazing for variety!
I did go to Oktoberfest when I was there but sadly could only find fries to eat so it didn’t make it to my post. Haha!
Your photos look great. It’s so hard to find vegan-friendly restaurants sometimes. Great suggestions.
Thanks so much! I agree it can be really tough sometimes so I love sharing my finds to hopefully help others out in the future.
My secret weapon is Happy Cow – I always scour the website/app before any trip! 🙂
Im glad to find this! When I was in Northern Germany last year they had no idea what vegetarianism was! Thankfully and graciously, the owner himself made me a weird veggie patty out of rive and some veggies- it was pretty good but SO weird!! But he tried so hard for me! But other than that guy I basically lived off of yogurt and cheesecakes with fruit and nutella! I would have LOVED a full meal once!
That’s such a shame! I’ve generally found larger cities pretty easy in terms of vegan/veggie food (in the past few years at least) but I’ve struggled a lot in smaller places. Like you, I’ve been places where they didn’t really understand what vegetarian was, let alone vegan! Crisps and bread often end up being my saviours! Haha!
Hope you fare better on your next trip! 🙂
Munich is a great city and seeing that they have amazing vegan food is even more cool!
Excellent post.
Thanks!
Emmi’s kitchen looks amazing!
It was! Think it was my favourite on the list. 🙂
