I have a vegan cookbook obsession.
I find shiny new cookbooks so hard to resist and my shelf is practically sagging under the weight of them. Browsing through the pages, drooling over pretty pictures, planning grand dinner parties in my head, whipping up some of the recipes… I love it all!
I also love sharing good finds, so I’ve compiled a list of the Top Five Vegan Cookbooks from my current collection.

This is a post I’ve wanted to do for ages but it was so hard to pick just five books from my slightly ridiculous collection. After a lot of deliberation, I narrowed it down to these awesome books, which are are all very well-worn, batter-splattered and post-it-note-riddled.
TOP FIVE VEGAN COOKBOOKS
1. Chloe’s Kitchen* by Chloe Coscarelli
Chloe’s Kitchen is the cookbook that converted me to vegan baking. Although there are both sweet and savoury offerings, it’s the “Cupcakes and More” section that I return to time and time again.
Coscarelli rose to fame after becoming the first ever vegan contestant to take home first prize on American baking program Cupcake Wars with her Ginger Nutmeg Spice Cupcakes. This girl knows what she’s talking about when it comes to vegan baking!
The recipes are simple yet delicious and Coscarelli does a great job at making vegan food accessible to the masses.
Must-Try Recipes: Pancakes for Dinner / Baked Sprinkled Doughnuts
2. Thug Kitchen* by Matt Holloway, Michelle Davis, and Thug Kitchen, LLC
I have been a fan of Thug Kitchen since way back in their early blog days. Just like the blog, the Thug Kitchen book is written in an ultra-casual, potty-mouthed style that cracks me up with every page.
With instructions like, “If you mix too much, your muffins will be tough. Don’t waste all that peanut butter on some f*cked up muffins” or, “This might look like you are trying to cast a spell or some sh*t like that, but just go with it”, this is not your average cookbook!
Aside from the hilarity, the food is amazing. I’ve pleased many-a meat-eater with recipes from this book. The food is healthy, hearty and full of flavour, honouring their motto: Eat like you give a f*ck.
Plus, the book’s photography and design is to-die-for.
Must-Try Recipes: Roasted Chickpea & Broccoli Burritos / Peanut Butter & Banana Nut Muffins
3. Isa Does It* by Isa Chandra
It wouldn’t be a list of top vegan cookbooks without an appearance from vegan queen Isa Chandra. I have so many of her books on my shelf that my issue was deciding which one to include!
In the end, I went with Isa Does It because this big hardcover has a huge variety of dishes and it’s just a really beautiful book. The photography is stunning and the page design is gorgeous.
Chandra’s recipes tend to involve a lot of ingredients but her flavour combos are insane so they’re well worth the effort. Plus, once you stock up on some of the rarer ingredients, you’ll find yourself using them again and again.
(NB: This book is also how I discovered Chandra’s first name is pronounced ee-sa, not ai-sa. Now re-read the title…)
Must-Try Recipes: Red Lentil Thai Chili / Marbled Banana Bread
4. Bake and Destroy* by Natalie Slater
Bake and Destroy is the cookbook for those who like food that’s simple yet original, and tasty without the need to be “perfect”.
The book has some super-American, over-the top recipes like Fruit Punch Winkies and Candy Bar Smoothies in the sweet section, and Pizza Cupcakes and Taco Lasagna in the savoury. But from crazy to comfort, everything just works.
The illustrations throughout are really cute and the book is littered with pop culture references and hints at Slater’s love for punk rock, slasher films and pro wrestling! It’s a quirky and fun cookbook with recipes you won’t find anywhere else.
Must-Try Recipes: Honky Tonk French Toast / Chai Berry Muffins
5. Vegan Food Gifts* by Joni Marie Newman
If you’re a DIY gifter, Vegan Food Gifts is the book for you! Rather than simply recipes, this book is also filled with ideas for sweet, handmade foodie gifts and pretty presentation ideas.
From cookie mix jars to breath-freshening doggie treats, and pretty preserves to infused booze, this book is a treasure trove of original gift ideas. I’m partial to the cookie and cake recipes myself and my housemate is a big fan of the infused oils section.
The photography throughout the book is beautiful and the illustrations and hand-made label templates are too sweet.
Must-Try Recipes: Espresso Chocolate Chip Loaves / Rosemary Infused Olive Oil
PIN IT!

Would also recommend the Ms Cupcake book too …. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0224095587/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_lT8QzbM8GG829
Ms Cupcake is one that I (surprisingly!) don’t have! But it’s on my wishlist, so could quite possibly be the next purchase. 😉
These sound amazing! Bake and Destroy sounds right up my street! 😀

I probs will tbh haha
He’s just said I can have it 😂😂
Score! 😂
I don’t actually own any of these cookbooks, that thug cookbook looks amazing! I do love deliciously ella though, and have a few books I got cheap in charity shops that I also adore 🙂
The Quirky Queer
Thug Kitchen is amazing! I have their “Party Grub” book too, which is just as hilarious!
I have Deliciously Ella as well – her books are great!
Love a good charity shop find. 🙂
Great … Feed my cookbook addiction! I’ve got the first three, but looks like I will have to add Bake & Destroy and maybe Vegan Food Gifts if it has dog treats!
Haha, sorry! (But not really…) 😀
Thanks for the recommendations. If you ever see an English version of any Attila Hildmann book, take a closer look. His latest -Vegan, Italian Style- is brilliant, but only in German so far (despite the English title!)
Thanks, I’ll keep an eye out. One more book in my ever-growing collection can’t hurt, right?! 😉
Super smart! Love it!
Thanks!
I haven’t heard of any of these cookbooks! At the moment I’m loving Vegan Recipes from the Middle East by Parvin Razavi, so good. I’m going to definitely check out these ones.

I’m definitely going to buy a couple of these this week. I recently decided to change my lifestyle to vegan, and so far I’ve found all my recipes on Pinterest and online. It will be nice to have good some cookbooks to flip through!
Oh, yay! I use recipes online too but there’s just something about having a lovely cookbook to flick through and use over and over. Hope you like them! 🙂
Thanks for sharing Sarah! I’ll have to try some of these cookbooks out. I’ve always just used Pinterest recipes. 🙂
My pleasure! Hope you find something you like! 🙂
Thanks for the recommended and tried and tested cookbooks. I find it so disappointing when my recipes turn out to be a waste of time 👎 Your recommendations sounds promising 👍
Thanks for reading! Let me know if you try any of these out! 🙂
I will do 🙂

Enjoyed your post. I am a self-confessed cookbook junkie. I can read them like a novel. I was just looking at Chloe’s book this last weekend. May have to get that one.
I just bought two new ones yesterday… Oops! 😀 I love just reading them as well!
Honestly, Chloe’s cookbooks are awesome. Definitely get it! (I’m a bad influence on cookbook junkies… ;-))
I would reccomend Vegan with a Vengeance! I love that one. Great list!
YES! I love that one too but had to narrow my Isa selection down to just the one. 😀
now i feel the need to buy some new cookbooks… 😀
Haha, I always feel that way! 😀😀😀
I own two of these five. I also love Slater’s recipe for Pretzel Dogs of the Dead, that I discovered via a Google search. Here’s one of my lists… https://veganbythebookblog.wordpress.com/2017/11/26/top-three-vegan-cookbooks-for-beginners/
Awesome! I love Natalie Slater’s quirky recipes so will have to look that one up.
