Thanks for reading! One of the problems is the ridiculously high fences. Apparently there is one fence (may be the one in the pic) where the ground the horses land on is lower than where they take off, which causes a lot of problems. They have lowered some of the fences in recent years for ‘safety’ but people have said this just makes the horses go faster and injure themselves more. It’s basically a lose-lose situation. =(

Wow, I sympathize with your position fully. Those stats are horrific and that one picture seems to show horses jumping from way too high off the landing ground!

I know, aren’t they?! Just after I uploaded that post, I read an article saying that a second horse had died. It’s not even the main event day yet. Makes me sick!
