Natural and Vegan-Friendly Haircare with Noughty Haircare Colour Bomb

I’ve been a fan of Noughty Haircare for a while now, ever since I first stumbled upon their range in my local Superdrug store.

As soon as I saw the vegan and cruelty-free logos on the packaging, I was sold.

I’ve been using Noughty products for a while now. As a blonde, I was a fan of the To the Rescue moisture-boosting range for keeping my bleached locks from getting frazzled and dry (thought I’ve since discovered there’s a “Blonde” range too).

After going red, I was keen to try out the Colour Bomb products; when Noughty very kindly sent me the shampoo and conditioner to test, I couldn’t wait to give it a go!

NOUGHTY HAIRCARE – NATURAL, VEGAN, AND CRUELTY-FREE

The Noughty range is 97% natural, which makes a big change from my usual chemical-laden hair products. Unlike many shampoos and conditioners, this range is free from parabens, silicone, petrochemicals, and sulphates, and is packed with packed with natural plant extracts and oils.

The Colour Bomb shampoo and conditioner both contain green rooibos extract, which is rich with antioxidants and is said to help with colour protection.

The shampoo also has baobab extract, which is full of vitamins and fruit acid to help your hair shine, and sunflower oil to moisturise.

The conditioner contains kigellia extract, which is full of antioxidants and has protective qualities, plus hibiscus extract, which is rich in plant acids to smooth your cuticles and add shine to your locks.

As well as being natural, the whole range is vegan-friendly with no animal-derived ingredients. Often found in hair products are lanolin, keratin, beeswax, honey, silk proteins, or milk products.

Noughty Haircare is certified by both The Vegan Society and The Vegetarian Society. This means there’s no need to study the ingredients list or frantically google the brand in-store just to check! Always a bonus.

It’s also a cruelty-free brand certified by PETA, so there’s no animal testing involved. At present, they’re not Leaping Bunny certified but fingers crossed that’s the next step!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

To start with, I love Noughty’s simple packaging design. It suits the natural ethos of the brand but it’s still pretty enough for the superficial part of me to want to reach for it on the shelves!

I also love that the product tubes are recyclable. It has always been a bugbear of mine that most cosmetic tubes are not recyclable, so I love that the packaging is more environmentally-friendly.

I really like the way the Colour Bomb products smell. They have a kind of woody scent with a hint of sweetness. Though a fairly strong, it’s a really natural scent and it’s not particularly floral so it’s not overpowering. (And that comes from someone whose allergies and asthma can’t handle most strong scents!) If you prefer floral or fruity scents, it may not be for you but I find the natural scent very refreshing.

THE RESULTS

The shampoo doesn’t lather as much as “regular” shampoo. At first I used more product to see if that worked, however, it turns out that it’s the sulphates that make shampoo foam. So don’t stress when your shampoo doesn’t foam – it’s still cleaning just as well! My hair definitely looked and felt clean after use.

In terms of colour loss, there was a little with each wash. However, the Colour Bomb products reduced the amount fade compared to regular shampoo and conditioner. My hair didn’t get a “washed out” look (until it was well overdue for a new dye job) and it helped stop my red shade from turning copper or orange. I didn’t expect a 100% colour-protecting miracle, so I was happy with these results.

My hair took a little time to get used to the conditioner. At first it didn’t feel quite as moisturised as usual after a wash. However, my hair seemed to get used to it and after a few weeks of use, felt nourished and soft.

If dryness is a concern for you, I’d recommend using a hydrating treatment (like Noughty’s To the Rescue Intense Moisture Treatment) at least once a week. I like to do a weekly treatment anyway for my difficult-to-manage, regularly blow-dried and straightened hair so this really wasn’t an issue for me.

The only other negative I found was that my hair seemed to need washing a little more frequently – maybe every second day instead of 2-3 times a week. However, if this is down to my hair getting used to a lack of chemicals, it’s absolutely worth it.

THE PRICE

I mustn’t forget to mention the price! The Noughty range is so affordable with shampoos and conditioners retailing at £6.99 each and treatments ranging from £6.99 to £8.99 each. Most other natural products I’ve found are on the more expensive side, so I love how purse-friendly this brand is.

I may have gone a little nuts in the sale myself…

  1. Thanks for all of your posts! Do you have any information on how the baobob extract is harvested? Since they are such an old and endangered tree, I am hoping this company is diligent in its environmental friendly practices as well.

  2. I do need to try these products! I have been looking for natural and vegan beauty and hair products for so long but I’m always nervous to try something new. Maybe this is the perfect time for me to do it!

    1. Yes, definitely! And they’re so affordable so perfect if you’re unsure about switching.

If you do try them, I recommend sticking with them for at least a month or two because it can take a while for your hair to get used to natural products and get the true benefits.

  3. I’d love to see your red hair! I wonder if it will work as well with my non-bleached but dry anyhow magenta hair? Im in desperate need of a trim but last time i went they took off 9 inches so i’ve been pretending my hair is still growing long….so it’s hella dry!

    1. I may be brave and post a pic here… Otherwise, there are some on my saved insta-stories. 🙂

These would definitely work with magenta hair! When my hair was really dry, I loved the “To the Rescue” range so that could be worth a try.

9 inches! That’s super-brave but bet it looks awesome. 🙂

  4. You had me at recyclable containers! This alone makes the products worth a try in my books. Just had my hair colored so need to give this a shot! Thanks for the natural and vegan friendly recommendation!
