Current Beauty Obsession: Paw Paw Balm

Fellow Australians will most likely be no stranger to paw paw balm. However, many people may be wondering what on earth I’m talking about!

Paw Paw (or papaya) balm is a miracle, multi-purpose balm. I mostly use it on my lips when they’re particularly dry but it’s also amazing on insect bites, rashes, minor burns, and itchy or dry skin. The thick balm goes a long way and although it can be a little sticky when first applied, it absorbs into the skin to work its wonders.

I recently had a small patch of dry skin on my face that no matter what I did or what products I tried, wouldn’t clear up. I’ve never had this problem before and I tried every moisturiser and balm in my possession. Then on my recent trip back to Sydney, I picked up a tube of Models Prefer Paw Paw Balm at a pharmacy…

Less than a week of application later, the dry patch that had been plaguing me for months was gone.Completely healed!

There are plenty of brands out there but I’m pretty impressed with Models Prefer as not only is the balm vegan, the brand is against animal testing. Yay! It comes in lots of yummy flavours: peach, coconut, green apple, and cinnamon, as well as original.

Annoyingly, paw paw balm can be pretty tough to get hold of in the UK. Superdrug stock a few brands but they all tend to contain petrolatum, which I try to avoid. The best option is usually to buy online. I do like Suvana, which I’ve blogged about before but as it contains honey, it’s sadly not vegan-friendly.

If you’re in Australia, just pop to your local Priceline and you’ll find a zillion different brands to try out.

For the rest of the world, let me know in the comments if you know  where you can find it! It’s worth it!

  1. I managed to find one called Dr. PawPaw Ultimate Red Balm. It has the same packaging as the original ones in Australia but it is tinted and contains petrolatum. If you’re stuck though it is available in Superdrug or Boots but it’s pricey!X
