Foodie Events: Wimbledon Park Food Festival 2014

Festival season is coming to an end so I’m trying to squeeze in as many food festivals as I can before the stallholders pack up their tents for another year.

Last weekend, I was at the London Vegan Festival and yesterday, I headed to the Wimbledon Park Food Festival, which is part of the Fantastic British Food Festivals.
The small, family-friendly festival costs just £1 to enter and is on over the whole August Bank Holiday weekend.

The relatively small festival features local and regional produce stalls, as well as cookery talks and demos and children’s cookery workshops. There was also children’s face painting, which was a sweet touch!

As it was a small festival, it wasn’t the most veggie-friendly event but I was excited to discover Chaatit – an amazing Indian vegetarian street food stall. After I’d finally decided on the Mumbai Sanmdwich a woman came back just to let to tell them how much she enjoyed hers. Always a good sign!  The sandwich was filled with a spiced potato mix, cucumber, beetroot, red onion, and a curry mix spiced to your taste. It nearly burnt my tongue off but was so worth it!

My friend went for the Masala Chip Wrap. I tried one of the chips on their own and they were insanely good. The cheesy, spicy chip wrap was deliciously indulgent!

We then treated ourselves to fruit sorbet for dessert. Nom!

Mango Sorbet

Being a small festival, we didn’t come home with as many goodies as usual. However, we did pick up some Burrow Hill sparkling cider, some still lemonade and ginger lemonade from Gran Stead’s Ginger Co, and some pickled cauliflower and pickled red onion from Little Batch Pickles.

The Wimbledon Food Festival is on all long weekend so if you’re in the South-West London area, I recommend it for a great day out!
