WHAT IS COLD BREW?
Cold brew coffee seems to be all the rage at the moment. Not to be confused with iced coffee (hot coffee poured over ice), cold brew is made by steeping roasted coffee beans in cold or room-temperature water for a length of time to get a richer, less acidic coffee in a concentrate form.
Each half-litre Bottleshot canister contains seven shots of concentrated coffee. So, with each delivery you’re set for the week (unless you’re a multiple-cups-a-day kinda person like me)! However, cold brew doesn’t go stale as quickly as regular coffee so this can last in the fridge for up to four weeks (two for the freshest taste).
This concentrated coffee smells incredible. I mean, all coffee smells pretty good to me but as soon as I took the lid off the bottle, my nose was in heaven. I was pretty tempted to drink the liquid neat, straight from the bottle…
GETTING CREATIVE WITH BOTTLESHOT COLD BREW
You can use the concentrate to make either hot or cold coffee so naturally, I tried both.
In London’s recent mini heatwave, the iced coffee was a dream. I used one shot coffee and two shots cashew milk (my new favourite dairy-free alternative) but of course, any milk will do the job. Served over a stack of ice, it was delicious.
To make a strong, hot latte I used two shots of coffee, two shots of boiling water and four shots of warmed and frothed hazelnut milk (another new addition to my milk rotation). Again, it was so, so good! Nice and creamy and the cold brew blends really well with both hot and cold mixers.
I also went a little rogue and made a mocha-banana smoothie with a shot of the coffee for the perfect morning pick-me-up! It was made from almond milk, frozen bananas, cacao powder and coffee. Yum!
MY cold brew conclusion
Cold brew coffee is marketed as being just as strong caffeine-wise but less bitter than regular coffee and that’s pretty spot-on. I don’t take sugar in my coffee but I can imagine that even sugar-users wouldn’t need it with the concentrate. It’s not sweet exactly but the slight bitterness and acidity of regular coffee is not there. It’s a super-smooth and more subtle flavour.
A weekly subscription of BottleShot Brew costs £10 per bottle (with free delivery), which works out at around £1.40 per coffee. Bargain! As someone who buys a coffee pretty much daily for up to £3 each, this could seriously save me a fortune.

I am not one for iced coffee but the cold brew sounds interesting enough to try. I have been known to add a pinch of salt to coffee to take away the bitterness but cold brew sounds like a great alternative. Do you heat it in the microwave for hot coffee?
